The 250,000-square-foot scientific research center is the largest facility for L’Oréal outside of France.

L’Oréal is continuing to develop its global innovation system, with the latest arm, a North American Research & Innovation Center, opening in Clark, New Jersey.

The 250,000-square-foot scientific research center represents a $160 million investment and the largest facility for L’Oréal outside of France. It includes a 26,000-square-foot modular lab, a center where up to 400 consumers can perform daily product testing, and an on-site mini factory through which the company looks to scale final formulations before full-scale production.

“This center embodies L’Oréal’s uniquely end-to-end innovation model, from upstream advanced research on new breakthrough ingredients to the downstream development of formulas ready for scale-up to deliver high-performance, safe, and responsible beauty solutions,” said Barbara Lavernos, deputy CEO of L’Oréal, who is in charge of research, innovation, and technology.
